Charitable Donations imagine1day

In Belago, Ethiopia, lives a young man named Kendahaw, who had never been to school for more than the first decade of his life. He focused instead on tending to his family’s cattle. Educational services were lacking in his community—classes were only provided to Grade 1 & 2 students and were hosted in makeshift open-air structures with dirt floors.

At Thinkific, we believe nothing should stand in the way of education—it should be accessible and enjoyable. Our hope is that we’re empowering our course creators to change lives by sharing their knowledge with students all over the world. Now, we want to give in a different way.

We’ve developed a new feature in Thinkific that allows course creators like you to automatically send a percentage of your course sales to one of our partner non-profits.

Our first partner is imagine1day, an innovative non-profit tearing down barriers to education in some of the most remote parts of Ethiopia. Our friends at imagine1day have set a big goal that by 2030, all Ethiopian children have access to quality education, free of foreign aid—and we want to help them reach it!

Here’s what kind of impact imagine1day has already had on Kendahaw’s life:

With the help of imagine1day, a brand new school was built to accommodate over 230 children up to Grade 4, which meant the older students would no longer have to make the dangerous 12-kilometre round trip to the next closest facility.

Kendahaw, along with his friends, are now free to learn in a healthy environment, complete with latrines, furniture and supplies, and even a playground. Community members and teachers were trained to help further the cause—they’re now equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to foster growth and put education first.

A grateful Kendahaw now spends his days in a classroom, smiling from ear to ear:

“I am very happy that I am now in school,” he says. “I want to grow up and become a teacher.”

You now have the chance to help contribute directly to the formal education of thousands of other children like Kendahaw by turning on your Thinkific charitable donations feature. Help invest in the next generation of compassionate teachers and course creators just like you!

In the future, we’ll be adding more charities, allowing you to pick from many options, and even letting you donate to multiple charities via different courses.

How to turn it on in Thinkific

To contribute directly from your Thinkific courses, you must be using Stripe as your payment processor. If you do not yet have Stripe set up, you can get started by going to the Integrations section of your site settings.

Go to the Basic Settings of your site, and under Site Details, look for the Charitable donation percentage field. Enter a number between 0 and 100 to set a percentage (for example, 5.5) and click Save Changes.

Now, all courses on your site will automatically allocate a percentage of sales to the chosen charity (currently imagine1day). Don’t worry if you change your mind—you can make adjustments to this amount at any time! Full instructions can be found in our Knowledge Base.

Great work, guys. You made this much easier for us to administer. We just launched it on our site.
Now just add a few extra charities for us to choose from, like the Brain and Behavior Research Foundation!

I second Jonathan, LOVE Thinkific! And, I’d love to be able to show that I’m donating 15% of the profit from my course to HOPE International — to help women escape the sex trade

Or the Alzheimer’s Association of Canada. I’ll look into the BBRF as well, Jonathan.

Awesome work. I appreciate what you guys are doing. And I appreciate your super simple platform. And I cannot wait to launch my course. Just adding the final touches and will pre-launch.

I agree, with Jonathan. It would be great to have selection of organization. We are big into supporting the environment. I think this way we are able to cover a wide range or areas to contribute to and make the world a bit better one course at a time. Let… Read more »
