It’s been a while since we last shared a big batch of new updates and features, and the latest list is even bigger. Grab a coffee and browse through some of our most recent updates!

Tonnes of new features rolled out for online course creators, by @Thinkific! #ThinkificLove Click To Tweet

Deliver course content over time

Top of the list, as we know, is Drip Release Content! We wrote a whole post about this, so check it out here. Drip Release allows Thinkific instructors to create lessons that are released to the student on a set schedule, rather than all at once. Our knowledge base article gets into the nitty gritty.

  • Highlight courses with more prominent positioning

By popular demand, we’ve added the ability to manually re-order your courses. This is perfect for instructors with lots of courses, or those who want to feature certain courses at the beginning of the list. Simple but effective. This almost doesn’t need a description, but we’ve got a support article up here.

I was trying to modify the copyright text, but found that the © symbol and the date are hard-coded. I prefer to use the Creative Commons notice, so would like to replace all the hard-coded text as I see fit. Perhaps you could allow complete freedom to replace the copyright text. One alternative would be to have shortcodes that we could select, such as the notice symbol, date, etc.

Great feedback, Larry! That’s not a request we’ve had before, but I’ll jot it down. I’m a big fan of creative solutions, so between copyright text/links, terms & conditions, and custom links on the page there are lots of options now for customization. I’ve also seen another customer simply list copyright as something like “© Copyright Creative Commons 2015”, with the words Creative Commons being a link to the specific CC license, which does the trick for now.

          Cheers!

            Hi Jan!

Our surveys can’t be copied from course to course right now, but this is definitely something that’s been requested so it’s in our pile of possible future features 😉

Another option that I’ve seen people do with really comprehensive surveys, rather than re-creating, is to use something like a Typeform survey which can be embedded with the multimedia content type. Then, the same survey can be linked to from multiple courses.

            Hope that helps!

              Hi Jan!

Many publishers of content on YouTube and Vimeo already allow their content to be embedded elsewhere online, so generally if you’ve got the option to embed you are good to go. You can add YouTube & Vimeo embed code in a text lesson type, by viewing the html view to add it. Voilà!

For broader info about copyright, fair use, and all that good stuff, here’s a great post that gives a bit of a primer. Cheers!

These updates are extremely helpful. I’m definitely considering using your service. I love the design of your classrooms, because they are free from distraction and easy to navigate.

One problem I have is with the logo space in the left corner of our sites. It is so small. In some of the example sites I have to strain to read the logos. It would be terrific if they displayed bigger.

Also, I’m not a huge disqus fan. I’m not sure how it works within the classroom, so I need to do more reading about that yet and try it out, but I’m concerned it might be confusing for some students.

I think it would be cool if you offered a school forum so discussion could be organised.

A page for each sutudent (like a profile page or something) to upload homework to, where he or she could recieve instructor and student feedback would be useful for my class. I guess at this point the homework could be sent through email–I’m still thinking through how instructor critiques could be delivered to benefit the class as a whole.

                Just thoughts! Thank you. 🙂

                  Thanks for the notes!

Haha – we know about the logo, it’s in the works 🙂

We looked at multiple options for discussion and love disqus because it allows commenters to comment using any of their social logins, which tends to be an expected experience these days online, and we’ve found it really improves student engagement. We do have an alternative discussion feature though, drop us an email when you’re taking a closer look and we can turn that on for you to try out!

                  Have a great weekend!

You can definitely link them! You don’t have to move your videos. The easiest way to do this is with the multimedia content type. All you need is the embeddable vimeo link, like this one http://player.vimeo.com/video/12345

Then you just create a new lesson choosing multimedia as the content type and paste in your link to point to your video.
