Accessibility Statement
Our commitment to building an inclusive platform for every learner and course creator.
CONFORMANCE STATUS
Working Toward WCAG 2.1 Level AA
Thinkific is actively working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, a widely recognised benchmark for accessible web experiences and the standard required by legislation in many countries. We are in the process of auditing, remediating, and testing our platform against these criteria, and this statement will be updated as our conformance posture improves.
Our Commitment
At Thinkific, we believe education should be available to everyone, regardless of ability or assistive technology. We are committed to making our platform genuinely accessible, not just technically compliant. That means making real improvements, being honest about where we stand, and following through on a clear plan.
Enterprise Accessibility Support
We understand that enterprise and public-sector customers have specific accessibility requirements, often governed by regulations such as Section 508, AODA, the European Accessibility Act (EAA), and EN 301 549. If you need to evaluate Thinkific as part of a procurement or compliance process, we are happy to:
- Provide detailed information about our accessibility posture for specific features
- Participate in a supplemental accessibility review or conversation with your team
- Share findings from our independent third-party audit and remediation roadmap under NDA
- Work toward providing a formal VPAT / ACR as our audit programme expands
Please reach out to your Thinkific account team or contact us using the details below.
What This Means in Practice
These are the standards we are actively working toward. They reflect our goals and the experience in parts of the platform, particularly areas built on our Chalk design system. Accessibility is not yet consistent across all areas; some admin tools and creator-facing areas are still being updated and may not yet meet all of the criteria below.
Navigate without a mouse
Every part of the platform can be reached with a keyboard alone: Tab through menus and forms, activate buttons with Enter or Space, and close popups with Escape.
Screen readers are supported
Thinkific works with NVDA, JAWS, and VoiceOver. Pages and components are built with the correct structure and labels so screen readers can accurately describe content and interactions.
Forms give you clear feedback
When a required field is missing or an entry is invalid, we provide clear, specific error messages, not vague browser popups or colour-only indicators.
Focus is always managed correctly
When a dialog opens, focus moves inside it automatically. When you close it, focus returns to where you were. You will not find yourself lost after interacting with a modal or notification.
Important information is never colour-only
Status indicators, error states, and signals are always accompanied by text or icons so that users who cannot distinguish colours receive the same information.
What We Are Doing
We have built a structured programme combining independent third-party evaluation, automated monitoring, and real world user testing with disabled participants.
1. Third-Party Audits
We have engaged an independent third-party accessibility specialist to audit our core learner experience. We are expanding scope to additional areas going forward.
2. Automated Scanning
We use the Deque axe linter in our development workflow to catch issues at the code level. We are in the process of implementing Deque axe Monitor for continuous automated scanning across the platform.
3. Structured Remediation
Issues are triaged in our product backlog, with accessibility bugs treated as product defects and prioritised accordingly.
4. Team Education
Accessibility champions are embedded across select teams, including our design system team and several product squads. We are working to expand accessibility as a clear expectation across all product teams.
Real world testing and usability research with disabled users
We partner with Fable (makeitfable.com) for both accessibility testing and usability research with disabled participants who use assistive technologies daily. Our work goes beyond automated scanning. We identify barriers that tools cannot catch, and we hear directly from people who use our platform with a screen reader, switch device, or keyboard alone. Issues found are treated as product defects and prioritised accordingly.
Scope of This Statement
This statement covers the Thinkific web platform, including the learner experience (course catalogue, player, quizzes, and community), and the course creator and administrator experience (site builder, dashboard, and settings). Our mobile apps for iOS and Android leverage platform-native accessibility features including VoiceOver, TalkBack, Dynamic Type, and system colour contrast settings.
Content uploaded by course creators is outside the scope of this statement. We provide guidance in our Help Center to help creators make their own content accessible.
Assistive Technology Support
We design and test with the following assistive technologies, combining automated scanning via the Deque axe toolchain with real world user testing through our Fable partnership.
| Technology | Platform | Status |
|---|---|---|
| VoiceOver | macOS & iOS | Targeted |
| NVDA | Windows | Targeted |
| JAWS | Windows | Targeted |
| TalkBack | Android | Targeted |
| Keyboard-only navigation | All browsers | Targeted |
| High contrast / forced colours | Windows / macOS | In Progress |
| Zoom & text resizing (up to 200%) | All browsers | Targeted |
“Targeted” = actively designed and tested against, including via Fable. “In Progress” = known gaps being remediated.
Known Limitations & Roadmap
We are continuously working to improve. Some areas of the platform may not yet fully meet our accessibility target. When issues are found through our audits, Deque axe Monitor scanning, Fable testing, or user feedback, we treat them as product defects and prioritise fixing them.
We are expanding our audit coverage to include the creator dashboard and admin tools. Production of a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT / ACR) is on our roadmap.
Feedback & Contact
We take accessibility feedback seriously. If you experience a barrier that is not addressed here, please let us know. We aim to respond within 5 business days and to offer an accessible alternative or remediation path within a reasonable timeframe.
